What are the four 4 main types of HVAC systems?
The four types of HVAC systems are:
- Split HVAC systems: A split HVAC system provides both heating and cooling to your home from two separate units.
- A hybrid split system: A hybrid HVAC split system is similar to a traditional split system. This kind of system is generally more energy efficient.
- Mini-split (ductless system): Mini-split HVAC systems provide either heating or cooling to one room of your home.
- Central HVAC system: A central HVAC system heats or cools your home using air ducts that are also installed in your home.

When should I turn on my HVAC?
Typically speaking, homeowners will want to turn their heating unit on during the wintertime when the temperatures begin dropping below 18 degrees Celsius. At the same time, if you have air conditioning installed in your home, you may wish to turn your unit on in the summertime when temperatures reach above 22 degrees Celsius. With that being said, your home’s HVAC system provides you with the ability to customize your indoor environment at any time, and it will really depend on your personal preferences for comfort.
-
Is HVAC same as a furnace?
An HVAC system is any unit installed in your home that provides it with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. On the other hand, a furnace is a type of heating system that allows homeowners to increase the indoor temperature of their homes to create a comfortable living space for their families. Therefore, you can consider your furnace as a more minor component of your home’s overall HVAC system. In addition, your HVAC system will also include air ducts, vents, your thermostat, and other units that allow you to monitor your living environment.
-
Does HVAC use gas or electricity?
Standard HVAC units are either powered by oil, gas, or electricity. The type that your home’s HVAC system will depend on the type of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units you have installed in your home. With that being said, if you have a natural gas line in your home for your stove, BBQ, and fireplace, it is likely that your home’s HVAC unit is also being powered by natural gas. Again, this will vary depending on your home.
